Downton Abbey Paper Dolls
Concepts by Willa Paskin, Illustrations by Kyle Hilton
This morning for me is almost as exciting as Christmas, as I get to share a project I’ve been working on this week. Vulture was gracious enough to hire me to create four Downton Abbey paper dolls and they’re now up for downloading/printing. I somehow managed to watch two seasons of this show (much to my wife’s enjoyment) in the span of a few days while working on these, and I have to say. Not a bad show.
Click through to see the article and all four dolls.
If you’re like me and all the rest of the Sensible Normal People In The World, you too are dying for Season Three of Downton Abbey to start. Did you hear Shirley MacLaine is playing Cora’s mother?? I KNOW! *SHRIEEEK!!* She’s to be pitted against Dame Maggie Smith. POW! ZAP! K-BANG!!
Shirley MacLaine + Dame Maggie Smith = Battle of The Scene Stealers.
I can’t WAIT!
If one wished to be linguistically and - by extension - historically pedantic, one could argue that most of these phrases certainly wouldn’t have been in existence during the time period in which Downton Abbey is set.
Personally I don’t care, but I’m just saying.
Which Downton Abbey Character Are You?

My results:
You are the Dowager Countess of Grantham, Violet Crawley. You do not suffer fools gladly. In fact you do not suffer anything at all because you refuse to entertain any form of discomfort in your life whatsoever.
The quiz can be found here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/quiz/2011/sep/13/downton-abbey-character
(When I read these results to my husband he rolled his eyes and said “Boy, did they get that right!)

Violet Vignettes

Good heavens! What am I sitting on?
Er, swivel chair.
Another modern brainwave?
Not very modern, they were invented by Thomas Jefferson.
Why does every day involve a fight with an American?
I’ll fetch a different one.
Oh no no, no - I’m a good sailor.
If you’ve thoroughly enjoyed Downton Abbey, you’ll be most entertained by this superior tumblr’s collection of Precious and Portentious Moments.

Over the past few days I’ve watched all of Series 1 and am now well into Series 2. This is one of the best English period dramas I’ve ever seen, and I am immensely impressed by its quality. The acting, the sets, and the costumes are all extraordinary.
I don’t want it to ever end :(
